Sonto for Coaching

Progress between sessions.

For Coaching

Your coachee leaves with a plan. Sonto keeps it top of mind until the next session.

Sonto helps capture the goals your coachee sets, and the actions they intend to take. Help them get the most out of your sessions by letting Sonto remind them to take action. The responsibility remains with the coachee, and there is nothing for the coach to administer.

Three nested planning horizons. The coaching goal contains the weekly plan, and the weekly plan contains the daily plan. You set the goal with your coachee; the app runs the two inside it.

Goal Together, once

What this is

Sonto is a planning and goal setting app that helps people define big outcomes, and then helps them work towards those through structured weekly and daily planning sessions. These sessions ensure that throughout the business of daily life, the big goals remain top of mind.

In a coaching setting, Sonto helps coachees keep their goals and 'homework' front and center. Every week Sonto will ask the coachee to reflect on last week, and define what will make this week a success. Every day, Sonto will help the coachee make tangible progress towards the week's plan.

Sonto is not a coaching platform. It is a personal and private environment to track goals and take action.

Sonto was made for private data. There is no account to create. No analytics or other data is collected. If you choose to sync with iCloud, all data remains within your private Apple account.

How Sonto helps

Set a goal. Check in weekly. Act daily. That's the gist. You're encouraged to experiment and mold this process to your specific coaching style.

  1. Set the goal

Add a yearly plan in Sonto, and describe your coaching goal in a sentence. If there are specific outcomes you're chasing, add each of them.

  2. After each session, add actions

The coachee adds whatever actions came out of the session.

A year plan in Sonto titled Become a confident Director. The goal is written as a
paragraph naming the fear, then four behavioural markers of what running the
role well looks like, then two groups of actions: three still to do before
session three, and two already ticked off before session two.
  3. Weekly and Daily planning nudges

Every week Sonto will ask what makes next week a success. And each day, how to make progress against the week's plan.

an intention and two tasks, each labelled with the plan it came from. On the
right, the coaching goal itself, with those same two tasks now marked as
                      scheduled for next week.
  4. Optional: Stay updated

The coachee can keep you posted on their progress. Or not. With Sonto, this is always a manual action. The responsibility remains with the coachee.

"Sonto helps my clients close the loop between sessions. I notice they take more action, and come back with more ideas the next session."

Why I built this

I am Bastiaan Terhorst and I have been coaching for about ten years alongside a career in tech. I built Sonto because so many of my coachees have a lot on their plate, and have trouble following through on their coaching goals, despite being motivated.
